Pitching Workout - Light Dumbbell Work

Pitching Workout - Light Dumbbell Work

Using light dumbbells as part of your pitching workout is not necessarily fun for most pitchers; however, they are necessary in establishing a solid rotator cuff. If enough pitchers and coaches were educated on the importance of adding these throwing specific exercises into their pitching workouts their attitude towards these workouts would change.

Pitching Workout Tip #1 Choose dumbbells instead of machines! Dumbbells are a great choice of equipment to use for strengthening your rotator cuff because the resistance and the movement is not constrained by a machine. When you do machine work, your body can only move in one direction, disabling the bodies natural curves and movement.

Pitching Workout Tip #2 Avoid Poor Technique! When performing rotator cuff exercises is is easy for an athlete to get sloppy. Some pitchers will use momentum, swinging the weights into position. You risk injury and your workout is less effective.
