5 Key Factors to Pitching Success

5 Key Factors to Pitching Success

So you want to be a successful Pitcher? Here are five absolutes that will get you there.

1. Location, Location, Location - In and out; Up and Down If you cannot hit your spots, especially at a higher level, you won’t be successful period.

2. Movement - Movement keeps the batter off balance. Proper pitching grips with wrist and forearm angle will help you get more movement on the ball.

3. Change of Speed - Also keep the batter off balance. Curveball, Slider, Cut Fastball, circle change all great pitches. A pitcher must have at least three great pitches, not average pitches, but great ones that move, change speed and can throw for strikes anywhere under any circumstances.

4. Pitching Velocity - It is important simply because a batter has less time to react to the pitch especially when you have a great inside fastball. Stride and momentum play an important role, with proper pitching mechanics of course, to generate velocity.

5. The Mental Game - There is much to say about the mental game of pitching. To be brief, I’ve seen pitchers will all of the first four skills who cannot pitch with confidence when things don’t go their way. It is imperative to acquire and learn more about the mental game. I would highly recommend Brian Cain, Peak Performance Coach.
