My name is Dan Gazaway. Ive had a passion for pitching since I was ten years old; Im now 32 and have been blessed to have taught thousands of pitchers how to throw a Baseball. What a great life!
Brief History:
When I was ten I signed up for little league baseball in Utah. Long story short, I found out I had a natural ability to pitch when my first coach, Ron Anderson, took each player aside at our first practice and gave us all a chance to pitch. I was the starting pitcher our first game and most games that year! Even though Ron didnt know much about pitching mechanics, I learned a great deal about what little league baseball is all about. Having fun and learning lifes lessons. To this very day, Ron Anderson ranks very high on my list of favorite coaches and I have had some outstanding ones after him. Because of him I feel I have been blessed with the ability to teach pitching in a way that even the youngest of pitchers can understand and implement easily. You see, Ron Anderson cared about me and everyone on that team. I owe Ron a lot for that. I share that with you because that is where my passion for pitching and baseball began.
Unlike most ten year old pitchers, I actually made it a habit to learn pitching mechanics at a very early age. I was not just a pitcher at ten; I was an avid student of pitching. In fact, in High School my coach would have me help other pitchers on our team with their mechanics. He was excited to learn what I was sharing with him after pitching camps etc. Since then I have had many opportunities to compete and instruct. I have learned, and still continue to learn, from some of the greatest pitching masterminds of the game. I have received personal instruction from Tom House and received a coaching certification through his organization. When the internet was introduced or became popular (I was 20) I was thrilled with all of the great information about pitching. I was able to excel my learning even faster and affiliate myself with other great pitching instructors and Baseball mentors.
During college I had a great time and played well. It wasnt until then when I realized what my real talents were. Not only do I know a great deal about pitching mechanics; I simplify the mechanics in such a way that an eight year old can understand them. During the day I may teach 10 pitchers. One session I may teach a ten year old and the next lesson may be a collegiate pitcher. My unique talent is taking all of the information I have learned over the last 20 + years, simplifying it, and helping pitchers at any level understand each concept so they can immediately apply it for success.

 Nate Barnett is the founder of BMI Baseball, a baseball instruction company devoted to providing quality baseball instruction and information. - Nate grew up in a small town north of Seattle, Washington. He excelled in baseball through high school and upon graduation received a college baseball scholarship to play at George Fox University in Oregon. Throughout his college playing career, Nate set numerous school records offensively. He also set a national record for four home runs in one game, two of which were grand slams. The Seattle Mariners organization signed Nate to a minor league baseball contract with the Seattle Mariners organization where he finished his playing career in 1999.
- Nate continued his passion for baseball and began coaching high school baseball in his home town north of Seattle. He quickly moved on to work as the hitting coach for Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.
- With a Master's Degree in Education, Nate has devoted his time and energy to teaching and coaching baseball athletes throughout the Puget Sound region. Nate has written three ebooks as well as dozens of articles having to do with athletic achievement which can be found on The Pitching Academy.
Hello and welcome to The Pitching Academy. My name is Nate Barnett and I have been playing and coaching the great sport of baseball since I was 10. I know, a bit late to begin, but we had lived in a remote town in Idaho where all we had to do was chase tumble weeds. Im now 32, and have joined Dan with The Pitching Academy to promote strong and clear training for baseball players.
Brief History:
I first started playing ball in Little League at age 10. Our small town north of Seattle had a local community baseball field where I spent countless hours with my buddies just playing baseball. I can remember being there all day sometimes on Saturdays in the summer.
I excelled in baseball through high school and had a desire to play professionally. I didnt know what it took at that time, or how long the road might be, but I knew I wanted to play professionally. I remember the summer after my senior season in high school going on a visit to a smaller University in Oregon to meet the coach and tryout. After the very brief tryout the coach (now a top Division I coach with a couple national championships under his belt) told me that I would never play baseball at the collegiate level. I was hurt by this. It went against my dreams Id had since Little League as well as everything Id worked towards. I worked hard during the early part of summer on my skills and then was seen by a new head coach at George Fox University in a tournament in Oregon. I hit two home runs the game he watched and afterwards the coach offered me a scholarship to play baseball. What a cool feeling that was!
My college career began with 1st Team All-American honors my sophomore year. I remember hitting four home runs in one game including two grand slams. That was the year my confidence skyrocketed and my work habit increased. My final two years at GFU ended with numerous records and another 1st Team All-American award. That summer I fulfilled my dream of playing professionally and signed a minor-league contract to play with the Seattle Mariners. What an experience that was. While I never got the shot at playing a Major League game, I finished my playing career content. In the spring of 2009 I was inducted into the George Fox University Hall of Fame.
Since my career ended, I have been heavily involved with coaching athletes in both pitching and hitting. Because the mental part of baseball was so important in my career I decided to launch BMI Baseball to help athletes with this lesser taught side of the sport. Because of my unique background in both pitching and hitting at high levels of baseball, Dan and I make a great team helping athletes fulfill their own dreams in this great sport. Im excited to be able to teach baseball players as we continue to develop The Pitching Academy into becoming a place where you can find reliable information and training.
